First Legal counsel for a Global EPC company with presence in 26 countries
What you will do
As a Legal Counsel India, you will serve as a key legal advisor for our Indian business entities. Your primary focus will be to support project-related activities during the sales and execution phases, maintain corporate housekeeping for our Indian companies, and handle a variety of commercial and general legal matters, including compliance and data protection matters.
Your responsibilities will include:
Project and Commercial Support
- Providing legal advice throughout the full project lifecycle, from tender and contract negotiation to project execution and delivery.
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts, including sales agreements, EPC/EPCM agreements, supply contracts, service contracts, NDAs, and consortium/JV agreements.
- Supporting risk assessment and mitigation strategies for bids, proposals, and ongoing projects.
- Advising on contract variations, claims management, and dispute avoidance.
Corporate Housekeeping
- Managing corporate secretarial duties for all Indian legal entities under the Group.
- Ensuring compliance with Indian Companies Act requirements, including board meetings, shareholder meetings, statutory filings, and maintenance of corporate records.
- Coordinating with Company Secretaries, auditors, and external advisers.
Compliance
- Act as Compliance Manager for India and potentially the wider region.
- Train staff in compliance related issues, support on maintaining and improving Compliance Management System.
General Legal Advisory
- Advising business functions on various legal questions including commercial, civil, employment, real estate, data protection, and regulatory matters.
- Monitoring legislative developments in India relevant to the business and ensuring timely implementation of legal and compliance requirements.
- Coordinating with external counsel for litigation or complex legal matters.
- Preparing, updating, and maintaining legal templates, guidelines, and standard documents for internal use.
- Delivering training sessions for business teams on key legal and compliance topics.
What we expect from you
- A completed law degree (LL.B. or LL.M.) from a recognized Indian university and admission to practice law in India.
- Several years of professional experience, ideally in an international industrial, engineering, EPC, manufacturing, or technology company — or in a reputable law firm supporting clients in these sectors.
- Solid understanding of Indian commercial and contract law, corporate law, and general civil law.
- Experience supporting project business and commercial transactions is a strong advantage.
- Strong analytical skills and a pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset.
- Hands-on mentality, high sense of responsibility, strong communication skills, and ability to work independently as well as in cross‑functional teams.
- Business‑level proficiency in English (written and spoken). Knowledge of German is beneficial but not required.
